Diane Ritchie from Ottawa, Ontario shared her story
Here is what happened to a friend of mine. He was using his card at a machine but did not think of covering his pin. The person behind him saw him key in his pin. When my friend walked out of the building and as he crossed the street someone bumped him from behind and then another person bumped him in front. They disappeared quickly. Before my friend reached the other side of the street he noticed his wallet was gone so he ran back to the bank to report it. Too late - they withdrew $300 from his chequing but, the next day they withdrew $800 out of his savings. They forgot to put a note on his savings account. You would think he would learn a lesson from this .... oh no. A month later he was at his favourit restaurant with friends. When he went to the bathroom he left his phone and wallet on the table assuming his friends would watch it. One of the waiters lifted his credit card number. His credit card company notified him with strange activity on his account the following day. Items were purchased including airfare ticket to BC.... the idiots used their real name and was arresseted. It was two waiters who were running a scam at the dinners where they worked and both were arrasted. Always cover your pin number and keep your cards close.

If they do use your card as long as you have not authorised it, you dont have to pay the bill as you are covered for that in the UK against fraudelant use by another person. I. Think it is unlikely they will remember your face and steal your card if you are careful storing it away in your bag.

if you are using your Bank card you should always sign instead of using your pin number the pin number is stored on the stores computer that is also how the Hacks are accomplished as in the big Home Depot incident.
if the pin is used bank wont protect the sale but if signature is used you would have some Bank Protection for fraud as well

use cash people....any card can be compromised ..it's not just the guy behind you in line..they hack the stores private customer data and get you anyways
Jennie Rabino from Toronto, Ontario added
they will remember your code and your face and they could tip someone so other person could steal your card. Endless way of scamming people.

ReplyDeleteI appreciate you spending some time and effort to put this short article
together. I once again find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and leaving comments.
But so what, it was still worth it!
