#1 No Fear of Heights
Xenia Ignatyeva took a selfie from a bridge 28 feet off the ground. She was only trying to impress her friends. The 17-year-old Russian girl then lost her balance and fell on a cable, which tragically electrocuted her. The original story can be found here.

This is a selfie snapped by a famous Puerto Rican reggaetón musician Jadiel, uploaded to Instagram moments before he had a fatal motorcycle crash in New York in May, 2014. Another unfortunate example of why keeping your eyes on the road and of your phone can save your life. The story can be found here.

#7 Cliff Selfie
A Polish couple on vacation in Portugal tried to take a selfie on the edge of a cliff on August 10, 2014 . . . and they both fell to their death. I am all for the moment and taking pictures to last a lifetime, but it’s important to make sure you’ll have the lifetime to look back on them too. Stay safe! I hope this couple rests in peace. The story can be found here.
#8 The Dangers of Social Media and Outdoing Your Friends
Selfies are great, and I myself am guilty of taking many creative selfies as well. However, as I’ve lost a friend to what he thought was a cool idea, I hope to reach out to everyone and let you know that you don’t need to be extreme to have fun. Whether you’re driving or enjoying selfies in public parks stay safe and make sure your friends stay safe as well. Your life is more important than any selfie.
