Nigeria is taking steps to achieve goal sixteen of the sustainable development goals, SDGs, which seeks to provide justice for indigents and vulnerable groups in the society.
To this end, the sustainable development goals office in Nigeria and the Nigerian bar association have gone into a strategic partnership that will see to the provision of free legal services for the less privileged in Nigeria.
The issue of prison congestion is one, which is a source of concern for governments both at federal and state levels. Most court cases which end up with the confinement of Nigerians is sometimes due to lack of proper access to legal services. To tackle this and other issues relating to provision of justice to vulnerable Nigerians necessitated the strategic partnership geared towards achieving goal sixteen of the SDGs
With this initiative, legal cases which could ordinarily be won unfairly are expected to reduce while the country’s ranking on access to justice will improve.
Nigeria like other nations of the world is taking steps towards achieving the sustainable development goals, which ends in 2030. More initiatives and strategic partnerships the SDGs office says are still expected in the coming days in Nigeria
