The Labour Party, LP, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the African Democratic Congress, ADC have demanded the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu.

The political parties made the demand at a joint press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu said, “All those, who are supporting us across Nigeria will get justice. Democracy may sound very expensive, it’s certainly not cheap. But if we think it’s expensive try dictatorship, you will see the cost.

“We don’t want INEC to turn itself to a dictatorship and destroy the very democracy we’ve suffered or laboured for or built the last 20 something years,” he added.

The National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure noted that the parties and the all Nigerians can not afford to elect wrong leaders.

He said, “What we are doing now is what our member want and the yearnings of Nigerians. What we are doing is also a due process.

“The cost will be high but that’s part of the sacrifices we need to make now. The cost of bad governance is higher than electing bad leaders,” he added.

Recall that the agents of major opposition parties at the national collation centre in Abuja, on Monday, walked out of the venue in protest at the exercise.

Dino Melaye and Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP had accused the INEC of violating the Electoral Act by going ahead with the result collation and announcement despite not uploading the results on the iREV portal.
