A massive 16th-century "Colossus" sculpture in Florence, Italy, conceals entire rooms within its structure. This monumental figure, part man and part mountain, was created in the late 1500s by the acclaimed Italian sculptor Giambologna as a representation of the rugged Apennine Mountains of Italy. Named Appennino, the colossal statue towers 35 feet high on the grounds of Villa di Pratolino in Tuscany.

Within its rugged exterior, the statue holds a fascinating secret—multiple hidden rooms with distinct purposes, bringing the colossus to life. The creature held by his left hand once spouted water from an underground stream, and it is said that a fireplace was built inside his head so that, when lit, smoke would billow out from his nostrils.
